Too many cooks. That's what it seems like. People are all dazzled by the internet graphics, facilities which is just superficial to what people really need. Each and every company (I.T.) are getting desperate in competition because of expectations on profits, this itself is not tangible in the long run. Flash is and will be a thing of the past because its fascistly run by Adobe, obviously people just want something "flashy" quick to interface and works on various platforms. We are still in the infancy and IE, Firefox, Opera, Netscape, whatever, too many plugins and requirements for soemthing that should be a simple and easy to develop and deliver interface. Too many cooks going in various directions will not work in the long term.

Why does it only work with windows and mac? Silverlight is really just another way to block linux users from just doing the things they want, because microsoft products are blocking off their use. Microsoft has a download button on their site, but that one redirects to moonlight, which doesn't work at all. Silverlight is horribly slow, fat (apps with a size of 20 megabytes) and thereby simply not suited for the web. Just give me a html page with flash for streaming. Flash works. It works brilliantly: small apps, fast loading, great video playback, works on a great many OSes.
Why on earth would anyone use silverlight for a web app, you build a web app, because you want your users to be able to use it, not because you want to force them to use microsoft products.
This seems to be the same thing they did with directx, an attempt to force even more users to use windows. They have silverlight, microsoft word, directx, internet explorer. IE is losing ground, firefox is now the most used browser. They lost nearly the entire mobile pc graphics, that's now all opengl es, except for the Xbox 360.
They are also slowly losing ground on desktop applications, simply because many small development studios found out that there is a linux market, and a mac market, and that opengl provides an oppertunity to sell their games to more people. They found out that it is in fact profitable to port games to linux.

As a (1 month) Silverlight developer, I claim that developing an app on Silverlight is a complete headache: constant lags of retard VS, buggy components, everything has to be recoded completely to be worth using. Shit, shoot me anybody, I just can't stand it!

Sure it sucks, but not because is just MS (what should be enough) and so, but because Adobe either with Flash, Flex and AS3 and soon with AS4 is doing a great job! Writing AS3 today is like write C++ with fewer less features ,,,, and that means much! Im an AS3 hardcoder and i know what im talking about ... plus soon you will be able to compile Flash apps directly for iPhone ... dear MS take ur Silverlight MS crap in your deep noob azzz....

Silverlight REALLY SUCKS. IT STINKS. IT's #*#&. It's as bad compared to Flash as IE is compared to Chrome. How you can make something so bad when all you have to do is copy the features of the leading player is mind boggling. And how Netflix every made the idiotic decision to use Silverlight instead of Flash will go down as one of the stupidest decisions in American business... right after Time Warner allowing itself to be bought by AOL.

Silverlight is another atempt from Microsoft to dominate the web. They failed with a non-standards IE and they are failing with SL. Novell should die horribly along with all mono developers.
